Band Focus: Kill 'em Dead cowboy

Guitarist Joedy, ex-bassist Tim, vocalist Sam, guitarist Jim and drummer Ollie out of shot.
Today I'm taking a more in-depth look at one of my favourite local groups, Portsmouth based metalcore band Kill 'em Dead Cowboy. Kill 'em Dead Cowboy started out small but quickly amassed a level of popularity on the local metal scene with their sound mixing a dirty thrash base with some great riffs. Overlaying this with great vocals and perfect pacing creates a well rounded sound which exemplifies the metalcore scene at its best whilst avoiding sounding generic and samey. KEDC toured pretty relentlessly throughout Europe during 2009 before releasing their EP, Darkened Dreams later that year. Darkened Dreams absolutely blew me away, as a first EP I was incredibly impressed, in my opinion, one of the best EP's available from local bands. Just one month after the release of Darkened Dreams the band were signed to Enterprise Music Management and started talking about releasing their debut album, aiming for a late summer 2010 release.

With the forthcoming release of an album, I for one am really looking forward to watching this band develop their sound and smooth out their rough edges. I can't mention enough how professional these guys sound, live as well as when recorded, if you get the opportunity to see them, definitely take it.

However, the recent departure of Tim, their bassist, has thrown a shadow over the future of KEDC. There seems to have been plently of interest from people willing to try out as their new bassist and I have every confidence that KEDC will be back on their feet soon. But I can't help but wonder, will the loss of Tim and the gain of a new member change KEDC? Will new tensions rise in the band?

Whatever your perspective, this is a difficult and unsure time for KEDC, I for one wish them the best of luck finding a new member and I hope they emerge stronger than ever.

Best of luck lads,

Ed
